KEYS N KRATES (give them attentions!)

From the first minute of their youtube video I was already overwhelmed with ecstaticism and awe-inspired awesomeness feelings...

I really don't know much about them except for what they say about themselves on their own site (http://www.keysnkrates.com/). They combine all of my favorite elements of Hip Hop, Live instrumentation, turntablism, and they create something that I hate to call a remix, because it's so much more alive and fluid.

You have to watch them for yourself...

man...the closest they'll be near me is in Vancouver on June 24th, @ the Biltmore Cabaret...more motivation for me to get my passport asap...yearAARGH!

more trailers...

MERANTAU

[ This is the first movie to really show us what SILAT is, which is an awesome looking martial art from Indonesia. Almost has the intriguing feel of ONG BAK where you don't know what you are gonna get. I think that was what my problem with ONG BAK 2 was, even though it was really awesome and crazy, you already know what is going to happen and nothing new came to the table. ]

BLOOD: THE LAST VAMPIRE

[ I think the trailer is really corny buy it has a few shots the Japanese trailer doesn't have, which directly below...Check out the anime if this looks interesting, you won't be disappointed. ]

DISTRICT-9

[ wow o wow...just by the trailer alone, this is one of those movies that i can fully embrace with open arms without knowing exactly what's going on...geek-mode activate! ]

SAMURAI PRINCESS

[ diony loves him some Japanese exploitation cinema. this one is coming from the fx director of Machine Girl and Tokyo Gore Police, so you know what you are in for from the very beginning. ]

JU-ON: SHIROI ROUJO and JU-ON: KUROI SHOUJO

[ anybody ready for a double dose of JAPANESE JU-ON...it's been 10 years since the very first (and best) Ju-on came out and to celebrate 2 more will be releasing soon. i'm glad it has the look and feel of the original and it's directed by 2 different directors so we'll see. ]

images from the new TRANSFORMER REVENGE OF THE FALLEN trailer...

Watched the new trailer TWICE on the big screen yesterday. Cinerama provided a free screening of the first TRANSFORMERS movie and debuted the trailer before the movie and again after the movie. I can't lie, I was really really hoping for a bait and switch. It could have been TF2 but it wasn't. But at least I got to see Transformers one last time on the big screen. Anyway, again, the action in the trailer is fast paced and intense, so many quick cuts that you can't see everything they show you. Slashfilm.com provided some hi-res screen shots and I have provided some of my favorites...

GI JOE...new international trailer...

Wow oh wow...I don't know how they are doing it but the people who have been cutting trailers lately are doing an exceptional job...GI JOE is looking tons better than I would have thought. The first super bowl teaser showed promise but made the movie too small of an adventure movie. This new trailer makes it look more epic than a LOTR movie...yeah, I probably took that a little too far, but that's where my hope lies...

PREDATORS...

...is coming. And it's directed PRODUCED by the very masterful (at least his R-rated works are) ROBERT ROGRIGUEZ. One can only hope it will correct the error of the last 2 predator outings...Anyway, that's enough on that subject. Just knowing Robert Rodriguez is helming makes me a happy camper.

*Red Cliff 2. If you watched the first Red Cliff you know that this is the second half to a fantastic epic story. Both are one in the same with each having it's own edifice of mood and tone. It's a must see for many of you.
*Killer Movie. Pretty much a run of the mill straight to dvd horror film. Good and Bad. It's about a reality television crew getting picked off, one by one. The big plus is that it stars Kaley Cuoco (Penny in Big Bang Theory).
*
Watchmen. Great translation from the great graphic novel. All the action, sex, and violence gets ramped up a bit more for the big screen. Rorschach continues to be the best character in the story. What I highly dislike is the changed ending. It becomes less an alegory of 'what-if' and gets turned into a wantingly R-rated blockbuster. Overall, still a great movie.
*Fist of the North Star. 50% boring, 50% cool, 100% not as good as the anime movie of the same name. Dante Basco is unsurprisingly not a good fit in his role.
*The Messengers. Why is it that every time I see Kristen Stewart in a role, she acts exactly like the last role she was in, bored and stoned. What do film-makers see in her. Does she have the great connections everyone yearns for? Somebody give her some Red Bull so she can grow some wings.
*Feast 2: Sloppy Seconds. The title got the sloppy part down. It was very sloppy. The blood, gore, story, characters, narratives, focus, ending. All sloppy. The first Feast was a good monster movie. This adds more but isn't executed very well. Let's hope the 3rd Feast movie fixes things.
*The Unborn. After this movie and Cloverfield, I'm becoming a bigger fan of Odette Yustman. She does need to find bigger roles that do not involve running and screaming but she is easy on the eyes. As for THE UNBORN, it's a decent movie with great visual effects. David S. Goyer is still proving that he's a better writer than he is a director. Not a bad movie, but not great either. More than a few creepy scares are worth the wade through this average horror movie.
*I Love You, Man. Totes Magotes! Paul Rudd and Jason Segel make the perfect couple, for a buddy film. No they are not gay, but best buds that start off as if they knew each other in a past life. Lots of memorable quotables and a touching buddy comedy overall. This could possibly be on repeat viewing down the road. Now, on to the next movie while I am SLOPPIN' MA BAOSS!
*Death Race. Jason Stathem. You really need to stop doing movies just because they pay you. This could have been a decent film if it wasn't based on DEATH RACE 2000, a much more superior film this the wretched piece of sh*t. Please watch DEATH RACE 2000! Honestly, I think it's the best Sylvester Stallone movie of all time. Yes, better than Rocky and Rambo...Yes, you read me right. BETTER! David Carradine also stars. WATCH NOW...NOW!
*I Spit On Your Grave. Wow, what a disturbing revenge film. So disturbing that the revenge still doesn't make you feel good. Well, it relieves you by like 2% but this is still one fuc*ed up movie. Must see if you are into gut wrenching movies from the '70's. This movie also has ONE OF THE MOST GUT WRENCHING SCENES EVER! Trust me...you. will. cringe.
*The Good, The Bad, and The Weird. Korean western. yup. It is, seriously. It's a good action movie. I'm not into western movies at all but this is quite good.
*Monsters vs Aliens 3D. One of the better Dreamworks films. Plays the classic monsters homage angle pretty well. My only negative is that they focus on SUUUUuuuusaaan a little too much. Maybe they could have added 10 more minutes to focus on the other monsters a tad more. INSECTASAURUS and B.O.B. for the WIN!
*Ong Bak 2. Great action movie. Has all the pluses and minuses that any good action movie has. Watch it for the martial arts and not for the story. Tony Jaa movies are all good. I'd put this in between Tom Yum Goong (the best) and the first Ong Bak (great first feature film).
